Lowery Wedding Part 1

This wedding by far has been one of my all time favorites, that we have accomplished here at Dr.Delphinium. Not just because of the spectacular venue, amazing designs, and complete over-the-topness, but this was really and truly one of my nicest brides as well. A lovely person with fantastic taste.

I wanted to really document well with photos, just to give a taste of the amount of work that goes into an event of this scale.

Tuesday of every week begins the intense preparation. To start us off, the glass that had been pulled weeks ago for all of the centerpieces, was staged to re-create our soon to be centerpieces.

All of these vases represent one centerpiece!!

This is the completed Centerpiece, put together so that we have a prototype to duplicate.

Julie, Lizzie, and Kim are working hard on the Altar Structure. This 8' tall metal frame will be the base supporting white branches and a mass of showy White Dendrobium Orchids, creating an inspired Wintry Look. All the branches are placed beforehand, to cut back on time once we are on-site.

This design was designated for the Sign in Table, sort of a two-layered Sphere of Roses and Dahlias.

The Peonies that we had originally ordered were unavailable in the specific shade that we needed, so the bride graciously allowed us to substitute with Ranunculus. This is a gorgeous bloom that really looks like a mini Peony. Of course, as with everything...there is always another challenge to face...particularly the Ranunculus coming in really right and immature. Solution? Place in the sun for a few hours, to let the sunlight naturally open the blooms.

All of the Hot Pink Roses have arrived. Thank goodness:)

Another minor drama involved all of our Phalaenopsis Orchids. Valentines Day had really dried the market dry of this particular color. Fortunately, I was able to pull what we had in stock already, which amounted to half of what we needed. We were then able to pull in a dark Fuchsia Purple Dendrobium, which in all actuality added a rich hue to the overall palette.

Here's our ever-growing stack of stuff to be packed. We planned to take all of the hardgoods on Friday night, that way we could take over our first load early on Saturday morning.

Keep up the good work!

Here's some fun snapshots of our team, in all their worn-out glory. But we love it, don't we?!:)

Here's Sari, pulling trip sheets and delivery orders for tomorrow. Both bins are full of orders.

Because of our awesome ramp, we are able to drive through our design center, and load inside the building. This works great in case of bad weather. George is about ready to load up for another trip.

Inside our large cooler, we stack tables to allow for more shelf space during the holiday. This is a glimpse of some of the designs that will all be pulled and delivered tomorrow.

Lizzie is working hard, and totally having fun at the same time:)

All through this madness, brides will get married on the 14th, and Elma, is working on one of our weddings.

Back at our Lover's Lane Location, our main retail store, our designer's are working hard to keep our sales floor full of gorgeous florals.

Oh so cute!!

Valentine's in the Making

As you can imagine, Valentine's Day preparation is a long and involved process, that literally requires months of planning.

While the fresh designs are put together closer to the actual day of the specified delivery, we are able to pre-make all of our plant gifts. At Dr. Delphinium we love Orchids, Begonias, Maidenhair Fern, and Hydrangea just to name a few.

This is our greenhouse, and the behind the scenes preparation for the big day!

I love the intense coral pink of these Begonias!

These Phalaenopsis Orchids are almost ready to be put into their vessels. This year, we are pairing orchids with Maidenhair Fern, which gives a more traditional streamlined orchid, a soft lacy texture. By the way, Orchids are great gifts for the men in our lives...;)

For all you last minute shoppers, I implore... please shop now!! You will definitely thank yourself later.

Color of the Month--Mimosa Yellow

It's time for our monthly event I would like to title..."Color of the Month". For February, In spite of the traditional Valentine's colors, my hue of choice, is bright and cheery Mimosa Yellow.

I definitely have a
fondness for this color,
and am glad it's vibrant
hues penetrate the
gray overtones of a cold
(depending on where
you live) winter month.

The Experts say this
warm yellow adds
optimism and re-assurance, which is especially needed in these economic ups and downs.

Sunflowers, or perhaps the yellow Rose of Texas, are generally the first florals thought of, when visualizing yellow blooms. I however, love the Callas, Orchids, Tulips, Gerberas, Daffodils, and more exotic Pin Cushion Proteas, that all have their individual interpretation of this sunny shade.

Interesting color combinations could potentially be Gunmetal Grey and Yellow, Black and Yellow, Plum and Yellow, Navy, Lime and Yellow. Despite the intensity, yellow can be versatile and unexpected.
